Circulator Pumps and Hydronic Heating

With snow storms and below zero temperatures, the dead of winter is the perfect time to remind you the value of circulator pumps and hydronic heating. It can be easy to take these things for granted, especially since we barely see them. They are often out of sight and out of mind. Yet, the importance of keeping your home or property at a comfortable temperature, especially during the colder months, should never be overlooked.

The Main Process

Seemingly complex and confusing, the actual pro

cess of hydronic heating is actually very simple. Greenland monasteries in the 14th century are usually credited as the first to use hot water for heating, and although there have obviously been many technological advancements since then, the main concept remains exactly the same. Hydronic heating simply refers to how water is heated and moved through an area to create heat. It is no coincidence that this incredibly simple and efficient system is one of the most popular ways of interior heating.

How It Works Today

It all starts in a boiler. An energy efficient boiler takes water from its source and heats it up. Then, the heated water is dispersed throughout a plumbing manifold system. By being connected to the thermostat, this system acts as a control center by directing water at the correct temperature to the various heating zones throughout the house or property. This allows the heating zones to maintain the temperature of your choosing. Since this process would continue to waste water over and over again, a circulator pump is essential. The pump constantly circulates the newly heated water into your pipes while water that has been cooled down returns to the boiler to start the whole process over again. Circulator pumps and a relatively similar method of water heating are also used with domestic hot water. It would take a lot of time and energy to warm up water each and every time somebody in the house used a faucet. Luckily, circulator pumps constantly keep warm water flowing throughout the pipes, ready to be utilized whenever. This is a bit more convenient than how 14th century Greenland monasteries utilized the procedure.

Benefits of Circulator Pumps and Hydronic Heating

If it already isn’t apparent, hydronic heating systems and circulator pumps save a lot of money on a water bill. The process itself is also much more efficient than other air heating methods. This is because water is a better heat conductor than air, meaning less energy is needed to heat the water. Additionally, insulation and other factors can fail and compromise traditional air heating methods while hydronic heating keeps water constantly heated. If saving energy and water isn’t enough, hydronic heating and circulator pumps are simply the most convenient option for keeping a home or building heated. The various radiant heating zones throughout a home allow each room to have different temperatures as needed. Finally, the whole process also works in complete silence, as opposed to a loud and obnoxious air heater turning on and off.

A Method of Heating That Is Here to Stay

The winter months can be downright brutal, but this doesn’t have to affect the heating inside of your home or property. Arctic air and snow storms are no match for the efficiency and power of a well maintained hydronic heating system. Circulator pumps work around the clock for your comfort and convenience. Hydronic heating has been around for centuries and it will be around for many more thanks to its elegant simplicity and undeniable functionality.
